How Limiting Beliefs Limit Career and Business Success

- Do you struggle to succeed in your career/business?
- Are you underachieving on your KPIs/targets/goals?
- Would you like to stop sabotaging your success and limiting beliefs limiting your success?
One of the major ways that professionals and business owners sabotage their success is via their limiting beliefs.
What you believe becomes real
All our behaviours are driven by our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values, etc. If our beliefs (what we know to be true about ourselves and the world around us) are positive (e.g. I am a successful person) they support us in creating a successful career/business. If our beliefs are limiting (e.g. I don’t want to fail) then these can limit our success in career/business and in life. Whatever you believe, whether positive or negative, becomes real through your behaviour. This has also been proven via quantum physics.
While many of our beliefs were developed during our childhood, early schooling and early adult life, they can significantly limit our success today. Therefore, it is important to change any beliefs which limit us today. Here are a few client case studies to illustrate the power of limiting beliefs, and how they can limit a professional and business owner, until they are addressed.
Case Study 1
A business owner with three retail outlets sought help. He admitted “I am the biggest procrastinator” and kept putting off a key business decision. He calculated that this procrastination cost him $10,000 per month, plus much financial and emotional stress. While he knew that, he still procrastinated about the decision.
We discovered that he had a few limiting beliefs which caused him to procrastinate on the decision. Once we helped him to address those limiting beliefs, he stopped procrastinating and took action. This saved him $120,000 each year, dramatically reduced his stress levels and freed up his focus and energy to grow his business.
Case Study 2
A salesperson found herself struggling financially, and working really hard to make money in her career. She was discounting her company’s products and services, and panicking about money. We discovered several limiting beliefs that held her back.
Once these beliefs were addressed she reached her targets for the first time, and started to exceed them within a couple of months. She also started to attract higher quality clients, her income increased significantly, and she created a much better work life balance.
Case Study 3
A business owner who could not grow his business. His biggest obstacles were second guessing himself, and talking himself out of doing things.
Once he addressed the beliefs that held him back, he is now more confident in his product and himself. As a result, his cash flow improved by over 35%. His stress levels are greatly reduced, and he is feeling the ongoing benefits of a greater level of calmness.
Identifying limiting beliefs
One way to identify any limiting beliefs is to look at your behaviour because your beliefs are reflected in your behaviour. Consider all aspects of your career/business (e.g. strategy, finance, marketing, sales, operations, people/HR, etc), and look for any behaviours with which you are unhappy.
For example, do you find yourself avoiding sales and marketing? If so, what are your beliefs around sales and marketing, and your ability to do these effectively? Do you put off calling late paying customers? What are your beliefs around doing that?
An accounts manager wanted to avoid confrontation, and so was unable to follow up late customer payments. This severely affected the cash flow in the company he worked for, and he almost lost his job as a result. Once we helped him to address his limiting beliefs, his behaviour changed, his employer was impressed, and he kept his job.
Addressing limiting beliefs
Once we identify your limiting beliefs, it is important to let them go so that they stop limiting your career/business success. Because our beliefs are stored at the unconscious level, the most effective way to let go of them is by working with the unconscious mind in such a way to address them permanently.
